A Full Circle Moment at Hibulb Cultural Center

In 2025, I had the honor of creating my first pair of earrings for the Hibulb Cultural Center’s Woven Ways Exhibit—an experience that felt incredibly full circle. Hibulb is where I first learned to weave cedar three years ago, and to now have my work displayed in that same space, alongside our ancestors and contemporary artists, means so much to me.

One of the pieces featured is from my B.A.E (Big Auntie Earrings) collection, a design that holds a lot of meaning in my work. Being part of this exhibit, especially in celebration of Native American Heritage Month, felt both grounding and surreal. It’s a reminder that true art is timeless—it lives beyond our time on earth. My hope is that one day, my work will continue on as part of that legacy.

When I first took a cedar weaving class at Hibulb, I was drawn in immediately. Learning to create traditional baskets, purses, and earrings connected deeply with my lifelong love for jewelry design, and it set me on the path I’m still walking today. In an interview for the exhibit, I reflected on how meaningful that transition has been—from student to artist—and how much I continue to learn with every piece I create.

Weaving cedar is an ongoing journey. I’m always exploring new patterns and incorporating materials like salmon skin leather, which reflects the relationship my people have with both the land and the sea. Each piece carries that connection forward.

Woven Ways is a powerful collection of cedar artwork from past and present Tulalip artists, with each piece telling a story rooted in culture, family, and tradition. If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to visit and experience the beauty of Indigenous artistry firsthand.

We are deeply grateful for our continued partnership with the Hibulb Cultural Center and the opportunity to share my work in such a meaningful space. Select KKONA pieces are also available through Hibulb alongside this beautiful exhibit.
